Right folks. Listen up. You have barely 2 days to plan something cute to do on St Dwynwen’s Day, Friday 25 January.
St Dwynwen – the Welsh Patron Saint of Lovers – is a little less known than St Valentine, but just as romantic.
If you live in North Wales there’s so many lovely things to do, that don’t involve overpriced meals out in crowded restaurants.
So here’s our 10 cute ways to celebrate St Dwynwen’s Day in North Wales without spending too much money.
There’s so many great walks to choose from but we love Newborough Warren and Ynys Llanddwyn. You can enjoy the gorgeous stroll along to the Island, visit St Dwynwen’s Church, and find some stunning selfie spots.
Head down the Conwy Valley, through Betws y Coed, left at Capel Curig, past Plas y Brenin Watersports Centre and pull up by the lake – you’ll have gorgeous view of the water and a perfect Snowdon vista. If you’re wrapped up and brave, you can find a sheltered spot to spread your picnic blanket. Or just stay cosy in the car!
It’s the weekend so how about a champagne cocktail to toast the day? We quite fancy Dylans, Llandudno for a romantic drink or two. You’ll find it just along from Venue Cymru with free roadside parking. Llandudno Bay is perfect for an romantic evening stroll along the promenade. Mine’s a Mojito if you’re asking.
I’m keen to see Mary, Queen of Scots but if you want a laugh try Stan & Ollie, or Olivia Coleman’s oscar nominated performance in The Favourite. The choice is yours, but don’t forget the popcorn.
I know, you eat in every night. But if you lay the table, light a candle and make a scrummy dessert, it’ll seem all special and you won’t have to leave the warmth of your own home.
We all know HYGGE right? Well now there’s FIKA. It’s a Danish word that translates “a coffee and cake break” but with friends and colleagues enjoying a little something to eat. You can find Fika at Janet Bell Home in Beaumaris where you’ll be treated to V60 filter coffee roasted by Poblado Coffi and home baked danish treats.
No North Wales guide would be complete without a stroll round the walls of Conwy town. treat yourself to some handmade Baravellis chocolate
It has to be Enochs Fish & Chips in Llandudno Junction. You’d have to go a long way to find better. And your conscience can relax as the fish are not only sustainable but also award winning. It’s just a hop and a skip over to the RSPB reserve for a relaxing walk along the Conwy Estuary.
You’ll be surprised how many quiet corners there are at Bodnant Gardens to get away from the crowds. If you fancy a truly tranquil date, there’s nowhere better and if you visit the adjoining Nursery you can take home a plant for your garden.
Last but by no means least, how about ordering a box of yummy cupcakes from Yours Truly. I can deliver to your home – all you have to do is curl up on the sofa, pour the wine and put on your favourite movie.
Whatever you decide to do, have a great day.
Happy St Dwynwen’s Day
