Hailey and Adam are one of the sweetest couples you are ever likely to meet!
I was introduced to them through a friend and after a short chat on Facebook, I arranged to meet Hailey for coffee one summer afternoon last year. What I very quickly learned was that Hailey is very much a family girl – and brought with her Mum Tracey and younger sister Rosie – presumably to check me out so that a family decision could be made! I’m pleased to say that 4 large cappuccinos later, they signed me up to make their wedding cake for June this year.
You can’t imagine my relief when Hailey decided against a Disney “Beauty and the Beast” Themed Wedding Cake – which I honestly think was a real possibility, as Hailey is a lifelong Disney Princess fan! However, they both love the traditional vintage style so ‘pink Victorian elegance’ was the brief, which fitted perfectly with the Victorian heritage of Llandudno, their beloved hometown.
Hailey and Adam’s Wedding Ceremony took place at Trinity Church, Llandudno surrounded by family and friends. Their sumptuous wedding breakfast was held at the 4 Star St George’s Hotel, in their Grade II listed Wedgwood Suite – one of the most famous rooms in North Wales, having played host to many famous functions and parties, including Winston Churchill, Tony Blair and more recently Gordon Brown. I wonder what Winston Churchill would have said about my cake ……
They chose 3 tiers of delicious sponge – madeira filled with raspberry and vanilla buttercream, double chocolate sponge filled with milk chocolate buttercream (the groom’s special choice) and madeira filled with rose flavoured buttercream and 20 matching vanilla cupcakes each topped with a handmade pink rosebud.
The main cake was covered with ‘celebration’ ivory fondant, and decorated with shades of dusky pale pink roses and other blossoms accented with tiny pearls and finished with traditional royal icing piping work. The top tier was crowned with a bouquet of hand moulded sugar paste roses and the cake dressed in pink satin ribbon matched perfectly to the bridesmaid’s dresses and to Hailey’s bouquet.
I couldn’t have been more pleased with the results.
Once it was set up on it’s silver stand in the bay window of the Wedgewood Suite , encircled with pretty cupcakes, I was finally able to stand back, breathe a sigh of relief (which all cake decorators will understand!) and feel pleased with my work.
It has been an honour to get to know Hailey and Adam and play a part in making their day so beautiful and special, and to feel so valued not just by them, but by Hailey’s parents and siblings who have been so gracious in their gratitude. It has been a joy to get to know their family and to keep in touch as Hailey has now qualified as a Paediatric Nurse and Adam progresses in his work as a Care Home Manager. They are a delight and I wish them much happiness for their life together.
