“No man is an island” said that famous English poet John Donne in 1624.
Well no small business is an island either. If you try to go it along, you’ll end up going slightly mad and wondering why the dog isn’t answering you back.
Today we’re celebrating creative colleagues who I work with day by day, who help me with my business goals and who are genuine creative friends. Let me warn you now, I might get emotional because these people are the best.
John at Indever manages my website and helps me with all my techie problems. He’s always there, nothing is too much trouble and he’s really good at what he does. Lisa helps me with photography and graphic design, and she’s really good too.
My friend Kerry, at Kerry’s Edible Toppers has made me probably thousands of cupcake toppers over the years. I’ve never met her but we speak most weeks on Messenger. She’s the most reliable and helpful person on the planet and has never let me down.
Then there’s Sandra at Mingle for Business. What can I say? She a trusted friend and mentor. She’s nurtured me in her lovely gentle way without even knowing what good she has done. She’s brought me out of my shell and given me a confidence I never thought I could get back. Sandra believes in my business and is evangelical about my cakes.
The clever folks at Foremans LLP who help me with my accounts and tax return. Without them, I would just be a mess! Honestly, numbers are really not my thing.
The fabulous Lynsey at L29 Creative is one of my newest creative friends, she doesn’t know it yet but I hope she’s going to help me with my rebranding. If she can do as good as job as she does with Welshot, then I’ll be a very happy bunny.
My good friend and skincare adviser Sandra, of Looking Good Naturally, is a real kindred spirit. She’s gorgeous and inspires me with her happy, wholesome and humorous approach to life. We share stories, regular cups of tea and help each other with social media and blogging. But mainly we encourage each other in our shared photography habit.
The lovely ladies at Busy B are just the best and being a #busyqueenb is the most fun job ever. Thank you for letting me be part of your amazing business, I will always be your biggest fan.
To my generous friends at Mason Cash – you’ve given me so much confidence in my blogging and photography and it’s an honour to work with your brilliant brand.
And finally, a big shout out to a pair made in heaven – Providero Teas and Coffees and Heartland. Were it not for their combined cleverness and creativity I would not get through the working day. Prov is my second office – they know what I drink and they know my favourite toast. Heartland is the only coffee – it’s roasted 1 mile from our home and you won’t find any other beans in our coffee machine.
And I must give my top husband a mention. I know all our husbands and partners are the best – but mine is the top of the pops. Creative is the last word he would use to describe himself, but he has no idea how much he helps me. Simply put, I wouldn’t have the freedom, resources or encouragement to run this business from home without him. He picks me up when I’m down and does all the washing up! He’s my best friend, chief taster, head of deliveries and stock, and decorating assistant. He never thought he would have a second career in cakes, but he’s really quite good at it. Hooray for Mr Bond.
So today I’m going to give you a tiny bit of homework. Nice homework! Sit down with a cup of coffee and write yourself a little list of all the folk you consider creative friends. You’ll be surprised. Then if you’re feeling especially generous, drop some of them a line to tell them how much you appreciate them.
That’s all for now
