ITS MY BIRTHDAY SO I’M GIVING YOU A GIFT

Posted on: April 11, 2019 by Judith, Posted in: Style Life

April is my favourite month of the year. It’s officially spring and it’s my birthday month. I had a lovely day with family which involved coffee, shopping, eating and every kind of weather including snow. I’m not telling you how old, except that I’m 262 in dachshund years and wishing our little Henry was still here to celebrate.

I know you all wish your birthday fell in April so we’ve teamed up with our friends at Huski Home to offer you a proper birthday treat.

If you love coffee (or tea), you love to go on adventures (big and small) and you want to do your bit to help the environment, then this treat is perfect for you.

WIN WIN

You can win a gorgeous Huski cup of your very own. Just head over to Instagram, make sure you’re following @judithbondcakes, like the giveaway post and comment on which colour Huski cup you’d like in your life

Hot off the Press

Hooray for Huski Home – they’ve had a busy weekend as finalists in the Natural and Organic Awards Europe 2019 in the “Best New Eco Living” category. Amazing and well deserved.

Why do you need a travel cup?

First of all – not just for travelling. We use 7 million disposable coffee cups every day in the UK. That’s 2.5 billion every year, of which 182 million are dropped on our streets or in the ocean. And most of the rest are not fully recyclable anyway. The mixture of paper and plastic in their inner lining – the bit that keeps your drink warm – means that 99.75% can’t be recycled.

On my quest for the perfect eco-friendly coffee cup, I discovered Huski a few months back and bought myself the Rose Pink one. They kindly gifted me Duck Egg and Pistachio so I have a delightful matching set of biodegradable and sustainable rice husk cups.

Why do I need a Huski cup?

I know what you’re thinking? There’s loads of travel cups out there – won’t any of them do?

Well no, actually. Huski cups are 100% biodegradable and sustainable. They’re non toxic, BPA and silicone free. They’re leakproof and have twin walled insulation which keeps your coffee hot for 90 minutes.

Beat that.

Many travel cups are made from plastic. While you can use them again and again , they still take 1000 years to decompose in the landfill, along with all the other plastic that has ever been created. Enough said.

What are rice husks?

Good question. Rice husks are the natural by-product of rice production. Disposing of them is a potential environmental hazard as they can only be burned or buried, causing pollution. So the lovely people at Huski Home have taken these natural rice husks and made them into sustainable products like these cups. Hoorah.

Rice husk is a naturally super strong material so it’s perfect for making cups – and also bricks for the construction industry. Who knew?

Colour choices

How is a girl supposed to choose? They come in 3 beautiful shades – Rose, Duck Egg or Pistachio.

Size wise

There’s 2 sizes available depending how much coffee you need, or how far you’re travelling.

The large size is 500ml and measures 18.9 x 8.8 x 8.8 cm

The regular size is 400ml and measures 15.7 x 8.8 x 8.8 cm

It’ll have you going hot and cold

So far I’ve only used mine for hot drinks but I’m looking forward to summer when I can fill it with iced water, or juice to keep me hydrated on the go. Especially if we get another UK heatwave.

The big advantage of the twin walled insulation is that you can fill it with the hottest drink and you won’t need to do the hand-juggle. Most travel cups, unless they have thermos technology, won’t keep your drink warm but Huski has it sorted for 90 minutes. Plenty of time to make it to the next coffee shop.

Happy Days
