A little while ago my good friend turned the big 5-0 so it seemed appropriate to make her a magnificent cake to celebrate her significant age, her larger than life personality and her extensive travel adventures.
Lee started life in a pretty little place called Titahi Bay on New Zealand’s North Island. She’s ended up in another pretty little place called Brynsiencyn on Anglesey’s Menai Straits. Home from home, you might think? But there’s been an awful lot of air-miles in between.
The main adventure has been an organisation called Welshot Imaging started almost 10 years in Lee’s imagination. Now it’s a thriving photographic community with a fond place in the hearts of it’s many enthusiastic members.
“Smarty”, the little green Smart car, which has recently evolved into a little green Fiat 500 was bound to feature on the cake winding it’s almost daily route from Anglesey to Chester and Liverpool.
Lee is never seen without her handbag – usually stuffed full of notebooks, her diary, and essential phone and ipad. The camera is a must especially for trips.
It was quite a party so we baked a big box of cupcakes with handmade toppers to go round everyone.
The cake had to be shades of green to match the Welshot branding, and I added purple and a few bright colours to bring the details to life.
Every girl should have balloons on her birthday and if you look carefully you can even that we gave Lee a special crown. Seemed appropriate.
Thanks Lee for asking me to make your cake and if I’m still doing this when you’re 60 – give me a call?
