The last cake of the year is always a joy to make - and especially to finish and pack away my cake tools for a few weeks.

When Christine asked for a retirement cake but without any mention of retirement we settled on “ Thank You Team” as a fitting message for her hardworking, loyal and devoted team who have worked happily together for many years.

“Everyone raved about your cake and how truly delicious it was. The look of awe on their faces when it was revealed was a real picture. Thank you so much for helping make this very special moment so memorable.”

We opted for the Japanese Blossom style design but with winter colours and a hint of Christmas. I’m a big fan of burgundy as an alternative to Christmas red, so we created hand cut flowers in shades of burgundy and claret, mixed in with soft pink and white, with spruce green leaves and pearl and gold accents.

Christine chose a large 12” square cake in vanilla sponge filled with raspberry jam, my most popular crowd pleasing flavour with matching burgundy buttercream.
