The attention to detail was exceptional
When Conwy Camera Club got in touch about their 80th birthday celebrations, it was a hard one to resist. I’ve always appreciated good photography and it’s a joy to support such a brilliant Club for their big birthday bash.
Conwy Camera Club is the oldest photographic society in North Wales, established in 1945. Originally it covered the whole of the North Wales region and it’s now one of the largest in Wales, with over 80 members interested in all types of photography.
Think about it - 1945 was the end of second world war, with the folk of Conwy celebrating VE day. Can you imagine the local amateur photographers snapping away at the street parties and families being reunited after the long war years.

Here’s a few fun facts to remind you how far we’ve come in 80 years -
Elvis Presley was making his first public appearance at the age of 10.
Bing Crosby and Ella Fitzgerald were topping the charts.
Slinky was the most popular Christmas gift.
Betty’s Crocker’s Cake Mixes were all the rage.
Percy Spencer invented the microwave oven.
The average salary was £214 and the average house price £614.
A loaf of bread cost 4p, a pound of butter was 18p, a pint of milk was 3p.
Happy 80th birthday
For their Christmas party gathering, we needed something big enough to make a statement and serve a good crowd. We settled on a large 12” vanilla sponge filled with buttercream and raspberry jam, decorated with the Club’s logo, 80 years and the dates.
Alongside the main cake, we made 50 decorated cupcakes with cameras, logos and 80s - a mixture of double chocolate and salted caramel. We also made in a selection of cupcakes made without gluten.
